On Wednesday 8th April from 9am to 3pm, Beverley’s Wednesday Market will be a scene of festive fun for all the family to enjoy – and it’s free to attend.

It’s a special event to launch the first of six monthly local produce markets to be held in the town between April and September.

The event will include 18 local produce stalls offering the very best in locally produce food and drink; cooking demonstrations from a mobile kitchen; Beverley Garland Dancers; acoustic young musicians Grand Theft Audio; Professor Fiddlesticks will be entertaining children with circus skills; and the Beverley Minster Youth Group will be organising lots of fun Easter activities for children to enjoy. Children can also get involved decorating cookies with Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware.

For full details of the day's schedule, please download the flyer at the bottom of this page.

One of the cooking demonstrations in the mobile kitchen will be given by Luke Underwood, sous chef at the Star @ Sancton. Speaking about Luke, Chef Ben Cox said: “The hard work is certainly paying off for hard working Luke. He started with us as a school leaver 5 years ago and now he is one of our key members of staff. He is dedicated to using the best of local produce. He is definitely a great "Star at Sancton" thoroughbred chef. It’s great that Beverley Town Council is offering this showcase for young local chefs and promoting locally grown and produced food and drink.”

Other cooking demonstrations will be given by Patrick’s Macarons, Side Oven Bakery, The Hull Pie and Beverley Tickton Grange.

The dates for all of the local produce monthly markets, each held on a Wednesday, are: 8th April, 13th May, 17th June, 15th July, 19th August and 16th September.

There will be up to 20 stalls at each market, with a real variety of food and drink on offer. Stallholders include: Staal Smokehouse, Patrick’s Macarons, White Rabbit Chocolate Shop, Rose Cottage Farm Products, Side Oven Bakery, Yorkshire Crisps, Fabulously Fruity Wine, Brown & Blond, Mr Huda’s and The Hull Pie – who recently won the ‘Remarkable Food Provider’ category at the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards 2015.

The event is being organised by Beverley Town Council in a bid to regenerate the Wednesday Market area of the town. It is hoped that the pilot project running over six months will bring more visitors to the town to shop and enjoy all that Beverley has to offer.

Mayor of Beverley Councillor Paul McGrath will be officially opening the event at 10am.

Beverley Town Council will be working in partnership with Beverley Minster, Beverley FM Radio and East Yorkshire Local Food Network (EYLFN) to deliver the local produce monthly markets project.
