British Heart Foundation urges Beverley to help raise funds for research

Volunteers are being sought in Beverley to help the British Heart Foundation (BHF) fund life-saving research.

Over 46,000 people across the East Riding are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory diseases. Each year, these devastating conditions claim the lives of more than 500 people in this area alone.

Now, the BHF is calling for people in the area to help them beat heartbreak forever by joining a local fundraising group. Fundraising groups are the face of the BHF in our local communities. From running events to supporting schools and local businesses and organising collections, they are a fantastic way to support the vital work of the charity.

Funds raised by volunteers will go towards vital research to find cures and treatments for heart and circulatory diseases. The BHF funds £100m research each year into all heart and circulatory conditions, including heart diseases, stroke and vascular dementia, along with risk factors including diabetes. Almost £1m is being invested at the University of Hull right now.

Thanks to the BHF’s research, today more people than ever survive heart and circulatory diseases. But these conditions still cause heartbreak for millions of families – killing one in four people.

The rallying call for support has been made by Nicola Jones, the BHF’s fundraising manager for South and East Yorkshire.

Nicola said: “Heart and circulatory diseases claim too many lives in East Yorkshire each year, so we’re determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation.

“By supporting the BHF, through your work, volunteering or holding your own fundraising event, you will be helping us fund the research that’s so desperately needed to bring us closer to beating heartbreak forever. We are incredibly proud to have 88 ongoing research projects happening across Yorkshire & the Humber, and together we can save more lives.”

Anyone interested in finding out more about the Beverley BHF Fundraising Group can join Nicola at Costa Coffee, Toll Gavel, Beverley on Tuesday 19th March. Please RSVP to Nicola, BHF’s Fundraising Manager for South & East Yorkshire, at jonesni@bhf.org.uk / 07393 766 233 / on Facebook Nicola Jones Heart.
