Planting 4 Pizza!

Children and families are invited to take part in a free to attend ‘planting and growing’ workshop on Saturday 1st March from 9.30am-12.30pm, at St Mary's Church Hall, North Bar Within, Beverley.

The workshop, called ‘Planting 4 Pizza!’ will feature how to grow the ingredients for a pizza, including basil, tomatoes, peppers and oregano, and a local chef will demonstrate how to create (and enjoy!) tasty pizzas to cook at home.

The family-friendly workshop is part of the activities organised by Beverley Town Council’s ‘From Field to Table’ Big Lottery Local Food funded project, which aims to provide opportunities for everyone to learn how to grow and eat their own food.

Expert gardening adviser John Hickling M.Hort (RHS) will be leading the planting and growing activities. John is a former RHS Schools Gardening Advisor and Senior Lecturer in Horticulture and he trained at Cambridge Botanic Gardens.

An officer said: “This planting and growing workshop is a fun and simple way for children and families to learn how to grow their own food, and create tasty meals to enjoy at home.  There’s something for everyone to get involved with, and we welcome anyone with an interest in growing vegetables to come along and take part.

“This event is an extension of the ‘From Field to Table’ project work we are doing on our community training allotment plot at Sparkmill in Beverley. We are holding this event in St Mary’s Church Hall in the centre of the town, to make it accessible for everyone, including people in wheelchairs, or with mobility difficulties who may not be able to visit our plot.”

The Planting 4 Pizza workshop is free to attend for children accompanied by a responsible adult. The first 5 children to take part will receive a free garden bird feeder.

To book a place on the workshop, or for more information, please telephone 01482 874096 or email
