Tesco Community Food Connection

The Beverley branch of Tesco is pleased to be working with the East Yorkshire Foodbank, Beverley Cherry Tree Community Centre, Leven Charity Pre-school and Long Riston Playgroup in their Community Food Connection food donation programme.

As part of our pledge to cut food waste, the scheme supports charities and community groups, enabling Tesco to donate surplus unsold food items at the end of each day. Since the scheme started in 2016, over 72,000 meals have been donated to these groups from our Beverley store.

Representatives from the store recently visited the Cherry Tree Centre to find out how the donations are helping people in the local community. Manager Jo Ramsay said: ''We are extremely grateful for Tesco for allowing us to collect food twice a week for our Food For Families Project that is run from the Cherry Tree Community Centre. The food gets shared between our community groups, the ladies group, the youth club, pensioners group, and the clients that come to us for benefit advice and the local community. We get anything from a variety of breads and various fruits and vegetables. We rely on our amazing volunteers to collect the food on a Monday and Thursday evening."

Tesco still have Friday and Saturday nights available for other groups to benefit from the programme. Please contact Dave Ryley, Tesco Beverley's Community Champion, (07871 572742 / if you would like more information.
